About the Davis Vantage Pro2
The Canterbrook Farms weather station is located near the southwest corner of the subdivision on Bridle Gate Dr. The station consists of a Davis Vantage Pro2 Integrated Sensor Suite (ISS) and a Davis VP2 indoor console with a WeatherLink computer interface. Data is collected by the ISS and transmitted to the console wirelessly every 2.5 seconds in the 900mHz band. The system uses a frequency-hopping technology to avoid interference from nearby cordless phones and other 900mHz devices.
The ISS collects rainfall, temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, wind speed, and wind direction data. It is powered by a solar cell during daylight hours and a lithium battery after dark.
After the weather data reaches the indoor console, it is sent to a computer running WindowsXP Pro which processes the data, preparing it for web display. The web-ready data is then uploaded via FTP to the Canterbrookfarms.org and other web servers for viewing. For more information about the system, take a look at the Davis website. The system was purchased from www.ambientweather.com. I highly recommend them if you are interested in weather gear.
Where Else Does This Data Go?
The Canterbrook Farms Weather data is being uploaded to a few other systems as well:
-
The WeatherUnderground shows our data at the bottom of their Louisville Weather page in the "Personal Weather
Stations" section. They also generate daily, weekly, monthly, 6 month and annual charts and graphs of our data.
- The Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP) is an NOAA sponsored organization that collects data from thousands of personal weather stations nation-wide and makes the data available to private and government research programs. Some of the organizations that make use of the CWOP data include: NWS Weather Forecast Offices, National Center for Environmental Prediction, National Center for Atmospheric Research, numerous universities, and many more. Canterbrook Farms data is listed as station CW3169 in the CWOP database.
